Detroit — Police in Detroit are investigating a Tuesday night shooting initially reported as taking place in Royal Oak.

The shooting took place about 8 p.m. on the 2500 block of Ferris, which is north of West Vernor and west of Central on Detroit's west side.

Officer Holly Lowe, a Detroit police spokeswoman, said the victim, a 37-year-old man, said he went to meet his brother-in-law, but sometime during the journey realized he'd been shot.

After being privately taken to a suburban hospital, the victim initially claimed the shooting took place in Royal Oak.

But Lt. Keith Spencer of the Royal Oak Police Department said investigators looked into that claim and found it to be untrue.

Detroit police are handling the investigation. As yet, no detailed suspect description has been offered.
