Suspected drunken driver rear-ends trooper's vehicle

Detroit — A rear-end crash affecting a Michigan State Police trooper's vehicle ended in a DUI arrest for the driver late Sunday night on the city's east side, police said.

It was about 8:15 p.m. Sunday, on Interstate 94 at Van Dyke, when troopers were working the scene of a freeway crash.

One trooper's vehicle was blocking the right lane, trying to protect the crash site, when the vehicle was hit from behind.

No one was inside the rear-ended vehicle, though, and no one was hurt in the crash.

When police pulled over the driver, the driver refused a blood alcohol test, only consenting to a blood test. Troopers conducted that test and the suspect is under arrest at Detroit Detention Center pending charges.
