Detroit — The rain and cool temperatures on Saturday didn't stop enthusiasts from flocking to Eastern Market for the annual Michigan beer festival were 120 breweries serving up 1,000 craft beers.

Each Michigan brewery including, Rocket Brewing, Witches Hat, Atwater, HopCat and shared a space to taste test.

The festival has tripled in growth since it began a decade ago, officials said. The first event, held in 2009, featured 40 breweries with 200 beer options.

The festival always returns to Eastern Market because of Detroit's rich brewing history, making it the perfect backdrop for the event, officials said.

The Michigan Brewers Guild is the network of brewers and their advocate for the Michigan craft beer industry. Their mission is to "promote and protect the Michigan craft beer industry with an overarching goal to help craft beer acquire 20 percent of the market by 2025," officials said.

The union calls Michigan "The Great Beer State" and say it ranks sixth in the nation in terms of an overall number of breweries, microbreweries and brewpubs.

"Michigan’s thriving brewing industry conservatively contributes more than $144 million in wages with a total economic contribution of more than $600 million."
