Detroit police officer, suspect injured in struggle for gun
Detroit — A Detroit police officer and a 30-year-old man were injured in a scuffle for a weapon Friday night on the city's northwest side.
The incident happened at 8:15 p.m. in the 15000 block of Greenfield near Fenkell. Police were responding to reports of shots fired.
On the scene police found the suspect, who clutched an object that he was concealing in his waistband and ran, police said.
The suspect dropped a handgun on the ground and returned trying to pick up the gun. A struggle for the gun ensued between the officer and the suspect.
The suspect was then taken down to the ground and arrested. The gun was recovered.
The officer was taken to the hospital by his partner for a right-hand injury and is in stable condition.
The suspect was taken to the hospital by medics and is in temporary serious condition.
