Detroit — Police are investigating a late Saturday shooting that ended in a car crash on the city's west side, and are on the lookout for the victim's cousin as the probe begins.

The shooting took place about 11:50 p.m. on the 11600 block of Lauder, police said. The area is north of Plymouth Road and west of Hubbell.

A witness reported hearing the sound of gunshots, then a car crash, and went outside to see a black 2011 Chevy Traverse that had crashed into a parked car.

Inside, there was a 31-year-old man who'd been shot in his upper right thigh.

Medics transported the victim to an area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Police reached the victim at the hospital, and believe that his cousin shot him before escaping into an apartment complex at Plymouth and Lauder.

After being shot, the victim attempted to drive himself to the hospital before he crashed, according to authorities.
