Police: Man shot at east side drug deal
Detroit — A planned drug deal ended instead in a shooting Wednesday night on Detroit's east side, police said.
The shooting took place "between 9:30 and 10" Wednesday night in the area of Gratiot and Eastburn, said Dontae Freeman, a Detroit Police Department spokesman. The area is south of Eight Mile.
Police say the victim, a 20-year-old man, met to transact a drug deal with another man.
But when the suspect tried to enter the victim's vehicle, the victim wouldn't let him. Words were exchanged between the two men, then the suspect shot the victim.
The victim drove off from the scene and was transported to the hospital by a police agency in another city, Freeman said. Detroit police reached the victim at the hospital, where he's listed in stable condition.
