Detroit police are searching for three suspects who mugged two women in during the day near the Michigan Central Station, officials said.

The robbery happened at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the area of 14th Street and Dalzelle Street in the city's Corktown District, said Dontae Freeman, a Detroit Police Department spokesman.

He said one of the victims is in her 60s and the other is 58.

Officers were dispatched to the area for a report of a robbery in progress and found the two women when they arrived, according to authorities.

Police spoke to the two victims who told officers they were leaving a nearby bar where they had lunch and walking to their vehicles when they were approached by a car with three people inside.

Freeman said the victims described the vehicle as a 2015 or 2016 black Chrysler 200.

One of the men in the car exited the vehicle, produced a handgun and demanded the women's purses, he said.

The elder of the two women made an attempt to flee, but the suspect instructed her not to move, according to police. He then ordered the two women to put their purses on the ground, they said.

The man grabbed the purses and got back into the vehicle, Freeman said.

The victims couldn't give police much information about the suspects, he said.
