Man shot during attempted robbery on east side
Detroit — A 23-year-old man was shot Monday night during an attempted armed robbery on the city's east side, police say.
The shooting took place just before 11:30 p.m. in the area of Lappin and Teppert, Officer Dan Donakowski, a Detroit Police Department spokesman, said. That's just north of East Seven Mile and west of Hoover.
The victim and a woman were talking on Teppert when a man approached the pair and announced a holdup, Donakowski said. The victim said he had nothing to give; the suspect then pulled his handgun and shot him in his left leg.
Medics transported the victim to an area hospital, where he's listed in critical condition.
The woman was not hurt in the shooting.
Police described the suspect as about 5-foot-10 with a slim build, braids and tattoos on his neck.
