Police find relatives of 4-year-old girl discovered alone on east side
Detroit — Police said they have located relatives of a 4-year-old girl found wandering the streets on the city's east side earlier in the day.
The girl was found in the area of Avondale and Lakewood by two Samaritans and taken to the Detroit Police Department's 5th Patrol Unit, police said.
Police put out a call earlier Friday evening, asking for the public's help.
Relatives were located during a canvas of the neighborhood where the girl was found.
"Family members have been located," the department announced on its Facebook page. "Thank you all for assistance."
The preliminary investigation "determined that the child wandered off while in the care of a family member," Detroit police said in a released statement.
The child is safe and has been placed with family. Children's Protective Services is investigating, police said.
Further information was not immediately available.
