Detroit — An early Friday morning shooting on the city's east side has left an 18-year-old man dead and another man injured, police said.

According to a preliminary investigation, the shooting happened at about 12:07 a.m. in the 11900 block of Laing near Kelly and Morang.

Police said the two men, ages 18 and 22, were sitting in a red Nissan Pathfinder when a vehicle drove by and someone inside fired shots at them.

Both men were struck by bullets.

The 18-year-old man was privately conveyed to a hospital where he died in the emergency room, officials said.

The other victim was taken to a hospital by medics and is listed in stable condition.

Police said the officers continue to investigate.
