Funeral arrangements set for L. Brooks Patterson

Funeral arrangements have been set for Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson.

Mr. Patterson, in his seventh term leading the county, died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday at his Independence Township home after battling pancreatic cancer for several months. He was 80.

Mr. Patterson is survived by his son Dr. Dayne (Heather) Rogers of Davisburg; daughters Mary (Gary) Warner of Clarkston and Shawn Sutherland of Waterford, daughter-in-law Jessie (Charlie) Damavoletes of Waterford; former wife Kathy (Bruce) Patterson of Clarkston; 11 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Patterson had three close relatives —  a twin brother Stephen; sister Harriett Hayden; and nephew Timothy Hayden — who all died of cancer.

A public viewing will be 1-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Conference Center of the L. Brooks Patterson Building at 2100 Pontiac Lake Road in Waterford.

Visitors may park in the lot at the Patterson Building. Overflow parking will be at the Oakland County Circuit Court parking lot and shuttle buses will be available to run to and from the Patterson Building.

The visitation and funeral will both be at Woodside Bible Church on 6600 Rochester Road in Troy. Viewings will be 3-8 p.m. on Aug. 14 and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Aug. 15. The funeral will begin after the second day of visitation at 1:30 p.m. 

While the visitation and funeral will be open to the public, a burial with full military honors will be private.
