Police: 2 shot at separate scenes; armed man steals from Family Dollar
Detroit — A Family Dollar store was robbed Monday on the city's east side and two men were shot at separate scenes on the west side, police said.
At about 4:30 p.m. two men left a Family Dollar on the 9900 block of East Jefferson, just west of Cadillac, with items they hadn't paid for and a staffer confronted them, said Latrice Crawford, a Detroit Police Department spokeswoman.
One man, in his 20s, standing 5 feet 5 inches tall, with dark skin and a short black afro, lifted his shirt to show off a silver handgun. The second man is believed to be in his 40s.
The men hopped into a black Ford Explorer and headed west on East Jefferson.
In the unrelated shootings, about four hours later, on the 18000 block of West Eight Mile, a 43-year-old man noticed a vehicle "circling the area" and traveling slowly. Police believe it was a white Chevy Cobalt.
Someone in the rear of the Cobalt rolled down a window and fired shots, striking the victim. The victim made a phone call, and someone picked him up at the scene and took him to a hospital. His condition was not immediately available.
In the third incident, at about 11:15 p.m. in the area of Wetherby and Barton — south of Tireman, west of Livernois — a man was shot in his stomach.
The circumstances and the shooter are unclear at this point. Medics transported the victim to a hospital, where he was taken to surgery and listed in critical condition
