Detroit — A 40-year-old man was shot while walking home early Saturday on the city's west side, police said. 

Police responded to reports of a shooting at 4:30 a.m. to the 9100 block of Winthrop Street near Ellis Street and Greenfield Road.

The victim told police he was walking westbound on Chicago when occupants of a black Dodge Durango began to fire an unknown number of shots at him. 

When the man allegedly arrived home, he realized he was shot, police said. 

Police said the man was taken to the hospital where he is listed in stable condition.
