Detroit — A man who allegedly fired shots at his girlfriend before barricading himself in a home on Detroit's west side early Wednesday morning has surrendered, police said.

At about 4 a.m. the man came to a home on the 16000 block of Princeton and fired shots at a woman, said Cpl. Dan Donakowski, a Detroit Police Department spokesman. Princeton is south of West McNichols and east of Livernois.

Police describe the man as the victim's boyfriend.

The victim was not hit and is safe, police said.

But the man ran into the home and has barricaded himself there, a situation that's ongoing more than two hours later.
