Detroit — A 22-year-old Detroit woman faces two felony charges in the death of her 18-day-old baby, who was found face down in a bathtub early Monday morning on the city's east side.

Jaila Thomas was arraigned Thursday morning at Detroit's 36th District Court. Magistrate Dawn White set her bond at $150,000 and scheduled a probable cause conference for 8:30 a.m. Sept. 12 and a preliminary examination for 1:30 p.m. Sept. 19, both before Judge Michael Wagner.

Jaila Thomas is arraigned Thursday morning at Detroit's 36th District Court.

About 5:30 a.m. Thomas found baby Lauren Williams unresponsive, floating face down in her bathtub in the home on the 19600 block of Schoenherr, south of East State Fair.

Medics pronounced the child dead; the cause of death was drowning. Thomas had allegedly been drinking at the time.

On Thursday, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office charged Thomas with involuntary manslaughter and second-degree child abuse.
