Detroit — Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a Saturday night shooting involving a 13-year-old boy and his toddler brother on the city's west side.

Detroit police said the teen and his 3-year-old brother were playing with a gun around 11:40 p.m. in the basement of a home in the 17500 block of Avon. The gun discharged, striking the teen, police said. 

The boy was transported to an area hospital and was listed in stable condition.

It was not immediately known Sunday who fired the weapon or who owned it.
