Detroit — A 2-year-old girl died Monday after her head was caught in a car window on the city's west side, police said.

The incident occurred at 3:30 p.m. Monday while a car was parked in the 13000 block of Winthrop Street.

Police said the child was in the backseat and her head became caught in the automatic lock window.

Her father and uncle were in the front seat at the time. They told police they were asleep in the car and when the father woke up, he found her stuck in the window, police said.

The father drove to the hospital while the uncle jumped into the backseat performing CPR on the way, police said.

The girl was pronounced dead at the hospital upon arrival.

The father was arrested for outstanding traffic tickets. Police say no charges have been filed in the child's death, but police are still investigating to determine exactly what occurred.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office has not determined the girl's death. Police preliminary reported it was initial suffocation.
