Detroit — A 21-year-old man was arrested late Wednesday night after shooting a man on Detroit's east side, believing he was an intruder — but it was his roommate, police said.

The shooting took place about 9:55 p.m. on the 7800 block of Helen, north of Harper and west of Van Dyke.

Police say the man shot a 20-year-old man, who he thought was breaking into the home.

But it turns out the men are roommates, police say. Medics transported the victim to the hospital, and he was listed in temporary serious condition.

Police recovered a handgun from the scene, and arrested the suspected shooter.

Wednesday's shooting is the second mistaken-intruder shooting in Detroit in the last three months.
