Harrison Township — Police said two people found dead in a Harrison Township apartment Thursday afternoon died in a murder-suicide.

Results from an autopsy Friday revealed that Anne Marie Goodell, 50, fired three rounds from a 9 mm handgun, killing Troy Richard Benjamin. She then turned the gun on herself.

“This is a very sad situation and our hearts and prayers go out to both families,” Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said in a statement.

Wickersham said Macomb County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 36000 block of Gordon Lane at about 3:45 p.m. Thursday after receiving a 911 call from Goodell’s daughter.

Upon entering the apartment, deputies found the bodies of Goodell and Benjamin, who lived in the apartment.

According to the sheriff’s department, there were no signs of a break-in. Neighbors said they heard gunshots at about 3 a.m. but no one called authorities.

The case remains under investigation.
