Warren — A woman and her young son are recovering from a double slashing Thursday stemming from argument that grew into an assault at an apartment complex on Thursday.

According to authorities, the incident occurred at about 7 p.m. at the Royal Green Apartments in the 29100 block of Lund, located in an area north of 12 Mile and between Van Dyke and Hoover.

“When police arrived, they found a 12-year-old boy who was bleeding profusely from the head and neck, as well as a 42-year-old woman bleeding from her bicep,” Warren Mayor James Fouts said.

“Apparently, there had been a dispute between the woman and another woman, age 32, during which the 42-year old woman began to punch and kick her. Then the 12-year-old boy joined in, which is when the 32-year-old woman pulled a box cutter and began slashing.”

According to Fouts, the woman has been charged with assault with intent to commit murder and has been jailed.

“It was bad but it could have been worse if the boy’s jugular had been slashed,” Fouts said. “The apartment complex has been visited often by police. It’s a bit of a rough area.”

Both victims were treated at St. John Macomb Hospital and have been released.

The investigation continues.
