Menards shopper killed when pallet of tiles falls in Chesterfield Township
Chesterfield Township – — Police on Tuesday are expected to offer details about an investigation into the death of a man at a home improvement store after a pallet of ceramic tiles fell from a shelf 15 feet above.
Chesterfield Township Police said a 911 caller reported the incident at the Menards store on Market Place Drive in Chesterfield Township just before 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
The victim, whom police identified as Richard V. Colletti, 38, was with his wife when the tiles fell from a storage shelf and struck him in the head. Colletti was taken to McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mount Clemens. He later died of his injuries.
Police said Colletti’s wife was unhurt. Relatives could not be reached by phone on Sunday.
Authorities said Menards store management and employees have been cooperative in the investigation.
Representatives from the company’s corporate office could not be reached for comment Sunday.
