— A father who is accused of shooting his son in the head was charged Wednesday with felony firearm and assault with the attempt to commit murder.

Nathaniel Burks Sr., 49, of Clinton Township was arraigned by video at 41B District Court, where his bond was set at $100,000. Burks is being held in the Macomb County Jail.

Police say the elder Burks shot his son, Nathaniel Burks, 27, of Roseville at 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the driveway of the elder Burks’ home on 14 Mile, west of Gratiot in Clinton Township.

Capt. Richard Maierle of the Clinton Township Police said the son came over to his father’s home. When the elder Burks thought the son was going to pull a gun on him he shot him once in the head, Maierle said. The bullet lodged in the son’s jaw.

Maierle said the father and son have had problems in the past. The elder Burks told police he had filed a police report on his son, who he claims made threats and pulled a gun on him.
