Macomb County jurors to be paid in cash daily
Mount Clemens — Macomb County residents serving jury duty will soon be paid in cash each day instead of waiting to receive a check.
The Macomb Daily reports a county committee this week approved the change, as well as the first small raise for jurors in 11 years.
County Clerk Carmella Sabaugh says the new system will use ATM-style machines. It’s designed to be more convenient for the 19,000 people called to Circuit Court jury duty each year.
The Mount Clemens Downtown Development Authority says jurors with cash on hand will be more likely to make purchases at local businesses instead of sitting in the courthouse.
The cash payments are expected to start by the end of the year. The full Board of Commissioners must approve the changes.
