2 killed in wrong-way crash on I-94
Harrison Township — Two men were killed in a Tuesday evening head-on crash involving a vehicle traveling the wrong-way on Interstate 94 at Harper, Michigan State Police said Wednesday.
Officials have identified the men as Larry Keith McCullough, 72, of Eastpointe, and Aaron Felix Skiba, 41, of Macomb Township.
Police said McCullough, who was driving a 2011 Toyota Prius, entered I-94 at Shook Road and traveled east on the freeway’s westbound lanes. His vehicle struck Skiba’s 2001 Dodge Neon head-on in the left travel lane. The accident occurred at about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Authorities pronounced McCullough dead at the scene. Skiba was taken to a Mount Clemens hospital where he died from his injuries, police said.
Officials said it’s unclear why McCullough was traveling the wrong way on I-94 at the time of the collision, but alcohol is believed to have been a factor.
Part of the freeway was closed for about 3 hours while state police conducted an investigation with the help of the Harrison Township Fire Department, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office and the Macomb Department of Transportation.
