— Shoppers at a suburban Detroit mall can donate nonperishable food items to help support the Macomb Food Bank.

The food drive at the Macomb Mall begins Friday and runs through Dec. 21.

Items will be distributed to more than 50 food pantries and other organizations.

The food bank is most in need of items such as peanut butter, jelly, macaroni and cheese, beef stew, chili, soups with meat, spaghetti sauce and noodles, tuna, canned chicken and canned turkey.

Macomb Mall and Lormax Stern Development also will donate $1 for each of the first 2,500 food items collected.

General manager Marianne Meyers says the mall wants “to ensure that individuals and families … get the opportunity to enjoy the holiday without worrying where their meals will be coming from.”
