Hackel speech to focus on 4 years as county exec
Clinton Township — Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel will give a 2014 State of the County address Wednesday.
This year's address will focus on the first four years of the executive form of government — with Hackel at the helm, lay the foundation for Macomb's future and debut two "Make Macomb Your Home" videos.
Hackel will highlight the nearly 40 percent growth in manufacturing jobs, investment within Macomb's defense corridor, and congressional and regional leaders' support of TACOM and Selfridge Air National Guard. He'll also tout the Macomb-OU INCubator working with the Michigan Defense Center to help companies realize $3.2 million in capital investment.
Macomb-OU INCubator is located within the Technology Advancement SmartZone of Sterling Heights. It is a partnership between the Sterling Heights, Macomb and Oakland University. The incubator is a catalyst for launching, developing, retaining and attracting commercial enterprise within its target industries.
The invitation-only event is expected to draw 1,200 to the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts at 4475 Garfield Road.
The address, beginning at 6 p.m., will be live-streamed on Macomb County's website at www.macombgov.org. A taped-delayed broadcast begins at 8 p.m. on WDET-FM (101.9).
Hackel easily won re-election, receiving more than twice as many votes as his opponent on Nov. 4. He first won election to the office in 2010.
