Macomb Township — Two men have been charged with armed robbery for allegedly sticking up a 7-Eleven on Romeo Plank last year.

Mark Taylor, 20, of Clinton Township and Michael Rentz, 24, of Shelby Township were arrested when tips linked them to the robbery that occurred around 4 a.m. June 20 on the 48900 block of Romeo Plank, according to police.

Police said a 911 caller last year indicated Taylor and Rentz entered the store armed with an assault rifle and handgun, and ordered the clerk to fill a grocery bag with cash from the register. One of the men also took packages of cigarettes before the pair left the store on foot.

A Sheriff's K-9 tracked the men to a nearby parking lot where police said it appeared the men had entered a vehicle and fled the scene.

Taylor was arraigned Tuesday in 41A District Court and given a $20,000 cash-or-surety bond. He has since been released on bail.

Rentz was arraigned Wednesday in the same court and given a $300,000 cash or surety bond. He remains in custody at the Macomb County jail.

The men are due back in court Feb. 5. They face life in prison on the armed robbery charges.
