Funeral fund set up for mom, baby in Eastpointe deaths
Eastpointe — First responders to the double homicide that took the lives of a mother and her infant daughter last week are still responding to the tragedy.
Officers from the Eastpointe Police and Fire departments have set up a fund on behalf of 29-year-old Monique Rakowski and her 13-month-old daughter Carmon.
The fund was organized by the Eastpointe Police Command Officers Association, the East Detroit Police Officers Association and the Eastpointe Fire Fighters Local 1561.
Monique and Carmon Rakowski were found stabbed to death at their Eastpointe home on Thursday. Police have arrested a suspect (believed to be Rakowski’s boyfriend and father of Carmon) but his name is being withheld pending an arraignment.
To date more than $3,000 has been raised in donations toward a goal of $10,000 to cover the cost of the wake and funeral. Any remaining funds will go to Rakowski’s 10-year-old son, who lives with his grandmother.
The Eastpointe first responders would prefer that donations be made through Go Fund Me rather than at the city’s police and fire stations.
