Two food programs for Macomb County senior citizens have been canceled for Thursday due to expected extreme cold temperatures.

Meals on Wheels and Dining Senior Style have both been suspended for the day, the Macomb County Community Services Agency announced Wednesday evening. The agency alerted seniors by phone about the delivery interruption.

The National Weather Forecast says the high Thursday is expected to be only about 5 degrees with lows Wednesday and Thursday nights below zero. Wind chills will make it feel much colder.

About 2,000 seniors receive warm lunches through the two programs. Many received a box of nonperishable food in December that they can use when the program is canceled.

About 400 seniors participate in Dining Senior Style, which provides meals at two dozen senior housing complexes, senior centers and churches.
