Mt. Clemens — One man is in custody as the Macomb County Sheriff’s Department continues to search for a second suspect in the murder of a 22-year-old Mount Clemens man found stabbed to death in his truck.

Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said they already know the individual on the run.

“We’re looking for a second individual who was involved, and we know who he is, but we’re not releasing any names yet,” Wickersham said.

Detectives have submitted a warrant request on the 18-year-old Mount Clemens man already in custody, Lt. John Michalke said Monday.

“We’re anticipating that a warrant will be authorized and we’ll be able to get him arraigned this afternoon,” Michalke said. “I won’t know until (the detectives) get back from the prosecutor’s office.”

The incident occurred around 8:18 p.m. Saturday, according to the sheriff’s department. The 911 dispatch center received a call of a vehicle crash behind a business located at 178 North Bound Gratiot in Mount Clemens.

When deputies arrived, they found a 2003 Dodge pickup, which struck a pole and was occupied by Alexander William Burkart, 22. When deputies removed him from the vehicle, they saw a stab wound to his chest.

First aid was administered until EMS arrived, and Burkart was taken to McLaren Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Video surveillance footage helped investigators locate two subjects in Mt. Clemens identified as possible suspects. The 18-year-old Mount Clemens man was taken into custody and questioned.

The man admitted his involvement in the altercation, according to the sheriff’s department.
