Harrison Township – — The second of two brothers accused of stealing a vehicle from a Harrison Township Apartment complex was arraigned Thursday in 41B District Court.

Jerome Havard, 23, is charged with one count of unlawful driving away, a five-year felony; one count of conspiracy to commit unlawful driving away; one count of second degree fleeing from a police officer and driving with a suspended license.

Havard and his brother, Jermaine Havard, 25, are accused of a vehicle theft in Harrison Township Sunday that led to a 100 mph police chase and ended with Jerome Havard, the driver of the stolen 2007 Chevy Trailblazer, being ejected from the vehicle and landing in the middle of Interstate 94.

Both Detroit residents have been charged in the 2 a.m. incident at the San Remo Apartments on Union Lake Road.

The owner of the trailblazer told dispatchers his truck had been stolen from the complex's parking lot, followed closely by a Dodge Avenger, that police say was driven by Jerome Havard.

When the police caught up to the vehicles, the driver of the Avenger pulled over, but the driver of the truck accelerated to more than 100 mph, lost control of the vehicle near the 14 Mile underpass and hit a snowbank and overturned. Jerome Havard was ejected from the vehicle and taken to a local hospital for treatment. He was released Wednesday to the Macomb County Jail.

Jerome Havard was given a $15,000 cash-or-surety bond, 10 percent. He returns to court March 9.
