Assistant prosecutor cited for leaving gun at school

Mount Clemens — An assistant Macomb County prosecutor has been cited after his handgun was found in a coat he left at a school.

The Macomb Daily reports 38-year-old Steve Fox, who lost an election for circuit court judge last November, was cited by the sheriff’s office after the gun was found by a janitor late March 3 at Cheyenne Elementary School in Macomb Township.

Fox says he inadvertently left the .38-caliber revolver after picking up his son from an event that night. He says it was in a locked holster.

Fox last week paid a $500 fine plus $100 in costs. His children attend the school and he says he’s “terribly embarrassed for my mistake.” He says he takes “full responsibility” and promises that it won’t happen again.
