Clinton Township — A 3-year-old boy is in stable condition after being shot in the head Monday night while at a park.

Police are trying to determine just what happened in the incident, which took place at about 8:45 p.m. in Normandy Park, located on Little Mack about half way between 14 Mile and 15 Mile.

“We’re trying to figure it out,” Capt. Richard Maierle said. “The child was with a male adult, a family friend, when it happened. We’re checking the park looking for a weapon.”

The boy was initially taken to McLaren Hospital Macomb and then later transferred to Children’s Hospital in Detroit.

Maierle would only say that police were “talking to people at this point” but that no one has been taken into custody.
