Employee injured in Roseville jewelry store robbery

The Detroit News

A jewelry store employee and a gunman tussled Wednesday morning before two robbers made off with items from a shattered display case.

Deputy Chief Donald Glandon of the Roseville Police Department said the employee suffered minor cuts from trying to thwart the robbery at Rainbow Jewelry in the 27000 block of Gratiot.

According to police, two suspects entered the store and asked about a ring and both then brandished handguns. After the fight between one employee and one gunman, all the workers were ordered to the floor.

As one gunman watched for police, the second one broke open the display and snatched unknown items, Glandon said. He also took some items from the store’s safe.

After the two fled, an employee followed them, but the two men were last seen on Longfellow, just west of Gratiot. Police used a canine search dog from the Troy police, but could not find the men.

Glandon said the two men were about 25 years old and one was wearing dark clothes.

Police are continuing their investigation and Glandon said there was no description of a vehicle or any video of the incident.
