Bruce Township — An autopsy is scheduled for Friday on the body of an elderly man found in his backyard Wednesday evening, police said.

Michigan State Police F/Lt. Mike Shaw said dispatchers received a call at about 7:25 p.m. about a body being found behind a home in the 8000 block of Pippen Drive in an area just north of 32 Mile Road.

Police have not released the man’s name.

Troopers and special investigation detectives remained on the scene near 32 Mile after 10 p.m. canvassing the neighborhood and exchanging information with other police agencies.

“We have completed our on-scene investigation,” Shaw said Thursday. “Now we are waiting for the medical examiner to conduct the autopsy and then will know where we are going from there.”

Bruce Township is a largely rural community dotted with large homes on large lots and with a population of about 8,200. It is also home to the Ford Motor Co. Proving Grounds.
