Warren — A Warren police officer was rushed to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle while directing traffic at the intersection of 13 Mile and Hoover at about 12:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Officer Kenneth Hubert, 29, was on traffic duty because the signal at the intersection was out of order. Officers were assisting with traffic control as Macomb County repaired the light.

Hubert was struck by a 2008 Dodge Ram driven by a 54-year-old Sterling Heights resident, police said. Hubert was thrown into the air and landed on the roadway, suffering possible head injuries, police said.

He was taken to St. John’s Main hospital.

“The officer was on foot and was directing traffic in the middle of the intersection when he was hit by what looks like a pickup truck,” said Rami Meshaal, manager of a Marathon gas station at 31015 Hoover.

The driver was cooperating with police. A preliminary breath test found alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the accident.

Capt. Dan Beck said the incident was under investigation.
