Macomb County Sheriff deputies with the marine division recovered Sunday evening the body of a 54-year-old homeless man from the Clinton River Spillway.

The deputies operating a patrol boat were called to the two-mile-long canal around 7 p.m. Sunday on a report of a suspicious object floating in the water.

Deputies found the body of Gregory Allen Wilson in the water about 250 yards west of the Jefferson Avenue bridge, officials said. His body was turned over to the Macomb County Medical Examiner’s Office.

There were no outward signs of foul play, officials said. The cause of death has yet to be determined pending an autopsy.

Wilson was homeless but staying in the area where his body was found.
