Armada — A memorial garden has been created to honor a 14-year-old girl who was killed last year along a popular nature trail.

The garden is along Macomb Orchard Trail in Armada, near where April Millsap's body was found last July. The garden was open for visitors Monday.

Her family worked with volunteers, community leaders and private businesses to develop the garden.

James VanCallis, 33, is charged in the teen's death. His lawyer has said there's no DNA evidence linking VanCallis to her death.

VanCallis has a pretrial hearing scheduled for Tuesday in the case. His trial is scheduled for September.
