St. Clair Shores — A 46-year-old Macomb County man is in serious condition after his motorcycle smashed into the rear of a car early Friday morning.

According to the Michigan State Police, the incident occurred at about 1 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 near 12 Mile.

Police said a passenger vehicle, which had been stopped on the right shoulder of the freeway, pulled back into the right lane. As the driver re-entered the freeway, he said he saw a motorcycle approach at what appeared to be a high rate of speed.

The motorcycle crashed into the car throwing the driver upon impact. The motorcyclist was taken to St. John Hospital where he remains in critical condition.
