Police: Macomb Twp. man accused of accosting girl
Authorities have charged a Macomb Township man accused of approaching a 14-year-old girl for sex, officials said.
The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office has charged the 67-year-old man with accosting a child for immoral purposes, a 4-year felony, Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said.
An interim bond hearing was held and a judge ordered the man to be held on a $100,000 bond.
Wickersham said police are not releasing the man’s identity until he is formally charged in court during the week.
Police say the man approached the girl at 1:11 p.m. Friday as she and some friends were operating a lemonade stand during a neighborhood garage sale.
He told the girl he would give her money for sexual favors, according to officials.
The girl immediately ran to her home and told her mother.
A man and woman who were shopping at the garage sale saw the suspect approach the girl, saw her run into her home and the suspect get into his vehicle to leave, Wickersham said.
The couple saw the girl’s mother run from her house in the suspect’s direction and used their car to block the man’s vehicle.
Police were summoned and they arrested the suspect.
Wickersham said the man lives in the area where he allegedly approached the girl and may be linked to reports of other similar crimes.
