Authorities were searching Lake St. Clair late Friday for a person who went overboard after two boats collided.

Macomb County sheriff’s dispatch alerted U.S. Coast Guard officials at about 8:30 p.m. that a cabin cruiser and speedboat had collided near MacRay Harbor in Harrison Township, said Lt. Ben Chamberlain, the public affairs officer with the Coast Guard’s Detroit sector.

“We don’t know the cause of the collision yet, but at the time of the crash, the two people in the speedboat were ejected and went into the water,” he said.

A nearby boat picked up one of those people, a male, who had back injuries and was treated by emergency personnel, Chamberlain said.

The second person, a female, had not yet been found by 11 p.m. The Coast Guard was continuing to canvass the area about a half-mile from Selfridge Air National Guard Base with a helicopter and station boat, Chamberlain said.

Macomb County sheriff’s officials also are involved in the search.
