A 48-year-old Harrison Township man was arraigned Friday on a charge of assault with intent to murder after he allegedly beat his 75-year-old mother in their home this week.

Brad Stephen Haynie was arraigned by video in 41B District Court in Clinton Township.

Deputies with the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 38000 block of L’Anse Creuse at 11:12 p.m. Wednesday. There had been previous calls made about a man living at the home.

According to the sheriff’s office, when deputies arrived they found the caller, a 75-year-old woman, severely beaten. Deputies found her son, Haynie, in the basement holding a pocket knife with the blade open. He was disarmed and arrested.

The woman was taken by ambulance to McLaren Hospital in Mount Clemens to be treated for face and head injuries.

Haynie was given a $150,000 bond. He returns to court Oct. 21.
