Researchers looks at social relationships in Metro area

Associated Press

University of Michigan researchers say they are contacting a diverse group of Detroit-area residents for a study on social relationships and well-being.

The university says the study will include interviews with 1,200 residents of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. Sociologists are seeking white, black and Middle Eastern and North African participants.

Researcher Kristine Ajrouch says the study aims to learn how people’s relatives and friends in the area affect social relationships. The goal, she says, is to develop ways to improve health and well-being.

The study is funded by the John Templeton Foundation, which supports research working toward finding common ground between spirituality and science.
