Macomb sheriffs arrest 2 men for child sexual abusive activity
The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office arrested two men in separate cases after both allegedly solicited sexual encounters with a detective posing as a 14-year-old boy, police said.
Scott Brian Hartwell, 44, of Casco was charged with three counts of child sexual abusive activity, a 20-year felony, and one count of computers-communicating with another to commit crime.
In a separate incident, Thomas Gordon Sturner, 60, of Lapeer was charged with one count of child sexual abusive activity and one count of computers-communicating with another to commit crime.
Both men were arrested earlier this month after they separately arrived at a Mount Clemens apartment building allegedly to meet who they believed was a teenaged boy for a sexual encounter. Each allegedly had previously engaged in sexually explicit dialogue with a sheriff’s investigator, officials said.
Hartwell and Sturner were video-arraigned separately Friday in 41B District Court in Clinton Township. Hartwell received a $75,000 bond and will return to court Nov. 4. He is a registered sex offender from a 2002 conviction for criminal sexual conduct.
Sturner was given a $50,000 bond. He returns to court Nov. 4.
