Four police officers from a Macomb County auto theft unit sustained minor injuries Thursday during the pursuit of a man accused of stealing a car.

The suspect, Dylan Michael Yates, 23, was charged Thursday with receiving and concealing stolen property, fleeing and eluding police, resisting arrest causing injury and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

If convicted, Yates faces a penalty of up to five years in prison for the receiving and concealing stolen property charge alone.

A magistrate at the 41-B District Court in Clinton Township set Yates’ bond at $50,000. Macomb County Sheriff Lt. Brian Barlog said he is currently being held at the Macomb County Jail.

Police said they received a report about a 1999 Saturn being stolen from a business in Mount Clemens on Monday.

On Thursday, an acquaintance of the vehicle’s owner saw the stolen vehicle parked at the Clinton Place Apartments on North River Road in Mount Clemens at about 11:35 a.m., according to authorities.

Detectives with an auto thefts unit were contacted and sent to the location. They set up surveillance on the stolen vehicle and saw the suspect getting into it.

Police tried to arrest the suspect, but he fled in the car and and struck several parked cars, officials said.

Sheriff’s deputies gave chase through several streets in Mount Clemens. During the pursuit, the suspect jumped out of the rolling car and fled on foot.

Officers chased him and arrested the suspect after a brief struggle. It was then the four officers received various minor injuries, police said. Three were Macomb County sheriff’s deputies; one was a St. Clair Shores police officer.

The suspect also was injured from jumping out of the moving vehicle, authorities said, and police took him to a hospital for treatment.
