Roseville — Police believe that alcohol may have been a factor in a crash that took the life of a 32-year-old Roseville man early Thursday morning.

According to police, Shane Michael Caughey died after his 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo left the roadway and struck a tree in the area of 12 Mile and Congress at about 1:17 a.m.

Investigators believe Caughey’s vehicle was traveling on westbound 12 Mile when he lost control and left the roadway at about 75 mph.

The speed limit in that area is 45 mph. Caughey, who was wearing a seat belt, died at the scene.

The crash closed down 12 Mile for several hours before it was reopened at about 7 a.m.
