Utica man killed in crash identified
Lenox Township — Alcohol may be a factor in a two-vehicle crash that took the life of a 34-year-old Utica man early Friday morning.
According to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at about 12:22 a.m. on 26 Mile near the intersection of Place Road.
A preliminary investigation has determined that a 38-year-old New Haven woman was driving her 2014 Dodge Journey eastbound on 26 Mile when she struck a 2006 Hyundai traveling westbound on 26 Mile.
The driver of the Hyundai died at the scene. Police have identified him as Kinjal Kaushik Patel, who had recently moved to Utica from Ohio.
According to police, Patel was returning home from his job in Ira Township.
The woman driving the Dodge Journey was trapped in her vehicle and had to be removed by fire personnel. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment where her condition is currently unknown.
Police said they have a witness that reported that the Dodge Journey was driving erratically on 26 Mile prior to the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
