Clinton Township — A 13-year-old driver and his 8-year-old sister were pursued in a police chase Saturday night that ended with the teenager losing control of the vehicle.

At about 11:30 p.m., Macomb County Sheriff’s deputies were looking for a black Nissan Altima that was reportedly driving erratically.

A sheriff’s deputy located the vehicle stopped at a red light on westbound Metropolitan Parkway near Harper in Clinton Township. The deputy initiated a traffic stop, prompting the Nissan to pull over on the shoulder.

“Before the deputy could approach the vehicle, the driver fled westbound on Metropolitan Parkway at a high-rate of speed,” the Macomb County Sheriff’s Department said in a release. “The deputy pursued the fleeing vehicle, still unaware of the occupants.”

Eventually, the driver of the Nissan lost control and spun out, crossing a grassy median and ending up on eastbound Metropolitan Parkway.

The two juvenile suspects jumped out of the car and began to run on foot before they were eventually caught with the assistance of Clinton Township police, authorities said.

The girl was turned over to her mother while the 13 year-old boy was brought to the Macomb Juvenile Justice Center. Deputies determined the car belonged to the girlfriend of the children’s father.

A juvenile detention hearing will be held Monday for the boy.
