Lenox Township — An 87-year-old man was robbed in his home Wednesday afternoon after one of the two suspects approached him a day earlier offering to trim trees on his property, according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was robbed by two suspects around 2 p.m. Wednesday on the 5000 block of County Line Road near 27 Mile, officials said. He was forced to the floor and held by one suspect while the other searched the home for cash, jewelry and drugs.

The victim recognized one suspect from an encounter Tuesday, according to the sheriff’s office. In the earlier encounter, the suspect approached the home and offered to trim trees on the property but the homeowner declined.

On Wednesday, the suspect returned with another man and asked the homeowner to produce the deed to his property, officials said. After the victim refused, an argument ensued and the suspects forced their way into the home.

The suspect who previously had offered to trim trees held the victim on the floor while the second suspect went into the bedroom, officials said. The second suspect then proceeded through the home, throwing papers to the floor during his search for valuables.

In a statement, officials said the suspects asked the homeowner: “Where is your money, diamonds and gold? We are looking for money and drugs.”

The suspects also located the victim’s cordless phone and threw it out of reach, officials said. The victim told authorities he did not fight back during the attack, which lasted approximately 20 minutes.

The victim was unable to tell police whether the suspects arrived and fled on foot or in a vehicle. He also was unsure how much cash was taken in the robbery. He was uninjured during the incident.

During an investigation into the incident, Macomb County Sheriff’s Deputies located a similar, recent incident that occurred in St. Clair County. They also spoke with an independent witness who was present at the victim’s home the day before the home invasion, when one of the suspects inquired about trimming trees.

The two assailants are described by officials as men who are 30- to 35-years-old. One has an olive complexion and is approximately 6-foot with a medium build. He was wearing all dark clothing and was clean-shaven.

The second suspect is approximately 5-foot-9 with a medium build. He had dark hair and was wearing tan pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office at (586) 307-9412.
