Clinton Township — A married couple who was found killed inside their Clinton Township home died of blunt force trauma, according to police.

The bodies of James and Christy McKeogh were discovered around 1:30 p.m. Friday in separate areas of their home on the 15000 block of Uthers in the area of 18 Mile and Hayes.

The woman’s cellphone and possibly some cash were missing, police said Monday.

The bodies were found by a relative who could not reach the pair by phone. James McKeogh, 56, was found in the garage and Christy McKeogh, 55, was found in the living room, according to The Macomb Daily.

Autopsies performed over the weekend found the couple died of blunt force trauma, Capt. Richard Maierle said Monday. Police have not identified a murder weapon.

“We don’t know,” he said. “It would all be a guess.”

Maierle on Friday said that blood was visible on the bodies.

An official at the Macomb County Medical Examiner’s Office declined to comment early Monday, referring all questions to the Clinton Township police.

Family members told The Macomb Daily that they were devastated to learn about the couple’s deaths and that the McKeoghs were “the nicest people you could ever meet.”

The couple had lived in the home for about 20 years.

“Nobody’s been arrested. I’ve got the whole crew working on this,” Maierle said. “We’re doing a lot of background right now, (talking to) friends, family members, neighbors.”
